Reviews and comments written for the Winchester Fail Safe bullet.

Used this bullet in 180 gr. for 7 years, and it has it's plusses. I have taken bull elk, wolf, bear, wt & md. Past fall my 15 year- old son shot moose, wolf and whitetail, and my 21 year old son shot a fine bull elk, all with the same '06 with the FS. The bullet almost always gets complete penetration. It's a bit too stiff for deer as I prefer to 'dump' all energy into an animal, and with the FS think most is expended into the air on the offside, therefore they take too long dying. One large WT shot through lungs at ~350 yds ran 150 yds. Wolf @ 70 yds through lungs ran 100 yds. One huge WT this fall hit on the run went down hard, but took 3 more shots and 3 minutes to give it up! I want more humane kills. You may be thinking 'then why use them for deer?' Good point - because we are always hunting in grizzly country and don't have time to change loads if the need arises for self-defense. Great for everything big, not so much for medium game. Today I'm sending a box of FS to a friend prepping for a grizzly hunt in BC, along with a box of Trophy Bonded Bearclaws. Whichever shoots better for his rifle. I'd not hesitate to use the FS on a big Grizzly, and wish I had when I did.

Just started using this bullet in my 300 win mag taking two moose and a mule deer. The 165 grain load grouped VERY well in my win model 70.The failsafe went straight through the animals with no meat damage.Cannot wait to try the 160 grain load in my 7 STW when the weather gets better. I shot a whitetail with a 150gr. FailSafe from a 308. I hit the deer in a dead runto 11 o'clock at 80 yards. The round hit him in the left hindquarter and exited at his right neck/shoulder. Upon field dressing I discoavered the bullet had traveled through the inner ribcage, through the back strap. The deer was about 120 dressed. The exit wound was still about 2" diameter. Incredible penetration.
