| This past year I was invited on a buffalo hunt. I looked at this as the chance of a lifetime. I was using a Marlin 1895SDT a short 16" barreled 45/70 lever action and I had brought 460gr. Cast Performance loads and also 405gr. Remington SP loads. At the last minute I chose to use the Remington load and was very glad I did. I had been told by a guide to shoot 5" behind the horns for a reliable take down. The buffalo was literally knocked off it's hoofs! The guide said that in all the years he's hunted buffalo he'd never seen one go down that fast or hard. The Remington 405gr. SPs are accurate and very hard hitting! I loaded these 405s over 48.1gr. of IMR3031 for about 1650FPS. I used WW cases, WLR primers the cartrdge was loaded to a COL of 2.550" and I used a factory crimp.
