| I have used this bullet (165gr) in a 300 win mag for two bears, one elk and two mule deer. The elk was 340+ yards and was shot through the rib cage. The exit hole was over 5" in diameter. Yes, the exit hole. One bear was shot at 6 feet through the ribs, again an impresive exit wound. The bullet did not exit the other animals, but they never moved either.
A rib shot on a big game animal produces an area on the ribs visible after skinning that looks as if the entire ribs are bloodshot, but after it is cleaned the damaged area usually is far less than it initially appears. If you shoot the animals shoulders, you will loose that meat and if you hit the animal in the hams, well that is never a good idea is it?
I will always use this bullt in the 270 & 300 mag for North American game, shy of Griz & Kodiaks. |
