Reviews and comments written for the Barnes Banded Solid bullet.

This is an amazingly accurate solid. Out of my .375 Remington Ultra Mag it groups into .75 at 100 yards. I have used it on two game animals, a 2000lb Eland and a Cape Buffalo. It preformed spectacularly on both. One of the primary jobs of a solid is the ability to keep going in a straight line after it hits heavy bone. Well, this bullets ability to do this was proven in an unusual way. When I shot the Eland I clipped a three inch sapling about 12 yards before the bullet got to the Eland. (ooops, low light) The sapling was almost cut down and the bullet impacted the Eland exactly where aimed and exited the off side. The shot was hard quartering away, behind the ribs to in front of the off shoulder. If this bullet stays on track for 12 yards after hitting three inches of wood, Iíll never worry about it deflecting inside a game animal.

Experience is with load workup and African experience with the 450 grain .458 banded solid. The new banded solids are more accurate and faster then older counterparts. Expect 50 fps faster speed with same powder/charge compared to older solid. (2480 fps) Cape Buffalo droppped with one shot in shoulder/neck area... hard to say if just spectacular or decidely miraculous.... the buffalo ran less than 75 feet before piling up. Additional solid to anchor shot into spine back of shoulder tore out 5 inch diameter hole through spine. The large meplat must be considered the main advantage to this bullet... Elmer Keith would have approved. This is a solid that performs like a soft nose in difficult shots.
