Season opened sept 17 for rifle and have been trying to fill my bull elk tag. Have had lots of chances with cows and seem to attract spike bulls ( tag is 3 pnt or bigger). My nefew tagged a big 7x7 bull and a couple other bulls have hit the ground for our group. Everyone in the group is accusing me of holding out for a huge bull but have only planned on giving the 1st legal bull I can a dirt nap. Hopefully I see one soon.
I passed on a 5x5 whitetail 3rd day from my stand that I got on trail cam. Was watching for elk in the area and didn't have alot of time to look at what I originally thought was a younger buck from the video. If I see him again I'll be shooting.
Best of luck everyone |

| two more speed goats and a nice 4x4 mulie for me. Had a good quartering away with .257 whby at 200yds. Hardly any blood. Caught up about 300 yds later and put him down. While skinning him out the exit hole was plugged with a piece of liver about the size of a gulf ball. His body cavity was full of blood and was still going strong at 250 yds. Lung shot dropped him. We're done with the speed goats with 17 in the freezer from 10 different hunters. I've still got another doe/fawn mulie tag and a cow/calf elk tag to use. Mama keeps asking , "Still more tags?" Hell yes, might be the last time, so got to do it! Hope everyone is having as much fun as I'm having! |

Well its drawing closer to a close. The boys came up after turkey and we spent a morning lookin for deer. One, one horned forkie, he came close to dieing as it was really hard to see. After coming back to the house for a bite to eat and a nap,as one was up at 2:30, we headed back out. It started as a light sprinkle and turned into a full blown blizzard. Not being able to see much over a 100 ft. we called it quits and headed home. A half mile down the road and the snow was about over. As we rounded a bend in the road there was a dozen, maybe fifteen does and fawns. I pulled the pickup off the road and the boys bailed out. A few seconds and seven rounds later there were four does down. One made it about fifty yds. I was the only one with a one shot kill. The boys were shooting Number 1's and I a Encore. The sky started to clear up in the west as it was 4:13 the oldest said. By the time we got the deer skinned and boned it was back to a blizzard. It took 50 minutes to drive the 35 miles back to the house. It was 11 degrees this morning at 6:45 and everyone was glad we had such good luck yesterday evening. I guess when it rains it pours as they one little buck was the only one we had seen! The boys are done for the year and I've still got my cow/calf tag left. It seems just last week I posted in July are we anxious, and now we're about done. |

| Done hunting for another season. I had a really good season again. Filling six out of seven tags. I do need some ideas, new ones, on elk tag sandwich! The elks never showed in the hay fields this fall. Haven't heard of any gotten. Its time to start putting in for this years applications. Moose will be the first as its due this month! Heres hoping everyone had as much fun as I did. Taking grand daughter out for her first hunt was the high light of the year. I gave her and old Western sheath knife made in Boulder, Co. That a buddie that past away twenty some years ago left me. She was more impressed with that than the rest of her birthday presents. Shes now a teenager so lets hope her hunting desires don't fade. She has lots of encouragement from grandpa, dad, and uncle! |

| Well about 2-3 weeks ago the state held the drawings and I hit 1000 again this year on antelope and deer, and the trophy cow/calf elk. Six for six! They reduced the number of availble permits by a bunch this year. Don't know if they were antisipating thee hot dry season we're having or what. The boys were able to get yhey're left overs yesterday after I told them wed. the 17th. Damn this getting old is so much fun. I got the plastic out and got the son and two girls they'res and one friend. Thats the most I could do after the miss info! The oldest was able to get his at work. And old former boss and his two boys in Kansas got theyr'es also, so we'll be gutin and cuttin. The elk season opens the 16th of aug. and the any goat , handgun/muzzle loader opens the 20th of aug. THe elk close Jan. 31 and deer opens oct. 15 and close nov. 30th! Now Mama wonder swhy I don't want to move back to Colo. |

| Well missed opening day of elk season, damn, no, got unexpected company from my favorite Aunt and her husband. Beside my friend went and said the elk haven't showed in the hayfields yet. I did make it for the opening day of antelope season on the 20th. Took a nice 12 1/4" buck. SOme of the worst shooting I've ever done. Couldn't get a full picture in the scope. I did shoot off hand at 25yds and finished him. Buddy used muzzle loader and had same problem bud dropped his doe with one shot at 142 yds. We're wondering how many more opening days a couple of 70 year old crippled up guys can keep doing this. Thankfully with the handi cap permits the BLM allows us to retrieve the game by driving off the trails with carefulness. Got the hangun, Encore .308, put away and will be useing a long gun for the rest. Did make plans to go back to Mn. in Nov and hunt again. The nephew has a heated stand ready for me and is sending pics of a nice buck visiting its area! |

| Saturday is goat opening and a whole crew are coming up. Grandma/great, is happy as a sparrow! Ther will be four hunters and six shoppers! I'm doing all the cooking ahead of time so its ready and waiting when we get in. A new granddaughter may/may try this year as its her first. She is really gun shy as to the noise and listening to her mother to the bad experience she had with her brother and guns when young. WE're not going to push her but she has a competiveness about her abd hopefully when big sister gets her second one she'll step up to the plate! |

| Well there were two tags filled. The granddaughter did is all proud again with a one shot one kill at 226 yds with Dad's .243 Encore saturday about 10:45. Her dad waited till about 3:00 and let his raffle prise Vanguard in .300 in. Mag put a fawn down. Did the job at alittle over 200 yds. Two fawn together and it hard to tell how big they are. The numbers are way down and it took alot of searching to find the doe/fawns. There were numerous chanches at bucks as the boys arer thinking with the wrong head. Sunday morning was a bust as the truck developed a broken battery cable. After alot of AA eingineering the boys got it connected to get it to the dealers. Sure felt lucky as if it had happened on sat late we'd still be walking or waiting for a tow truck backing down a irrigation ditch road a couple of miles> Got three friends coming tommorow and we'll hit it again. |
