Im going to put a new barrel on my win M70 270WSM. plan on using 130gr. bullets for most of my shooting. I did Berger's twist rate stability calculator and came up that a 8"twist is better than the 10" twist that most barrel co. offer for the 270 cal. I was thinking of going with a Shilen barrel and all they offer is 10" or 11". will I be happy with the 10 or would the 8" twist be better. I don't wont to spend that kind on $$ and find out it won't shoot the way im hopping. Thanks.
The 1:10 twist is the accepted "universal" twist rate for the majority of the barrels standard hunters use. If this is the bullet that you are wishing to use, then you are fine because Berger recommends a 1:10 twist anyway.
I'm not sure what barrel length yet but nothing longer than 26". the 26 is what I'm planning on unless a shorter one is recommended. I'll be trying 130gr. from Berger, Sierra, Hornady, Swift and Nosler.
