H4198 will be the right place to start. You could kick off with 38-55 loads as a starting point and work up, depending on what rifle you are using.
If you are using the XTR lever action, like most levers, you shouldnt push the envelope re pressure. Were you going to use cast or jacketed, or both?
Check out 38-55 data to get you going. I suspect you will get faster speeds out of the 375 though. A friend of mine had a 375 lever and it was great for pigs up to about 150y or so. It would be a really good one for deer too I am sure. |

| Thanks bobnob, and yes their are no other deer gun i'd rather have. I used it with factory loads and knocked down 3 deer to this date. Though yes mine is a lever action and its basically the same as 38-55 except was built to withstand much more pressure of 52,000 CUP compared to 38,000 CUP of the much older 38-55. The 375 will reach much higher velocity's than a 38-55 win will. For the powder H-4198, it is one of the first powder's i want to try. I was wanting to start loading it with only jacketed bullets at first anyways. I would also like to hunt pigs and black bear with it someday in the future! |

Hmm 52k cup, I have read that before, I guess it must be safe enough but doesn't sound quite right in a lever. I probably would be inclined to go middle of the road loads out of natural cautiousness, but that should still give you plenty of performance.
Had there been a decent 375 lever gun available when I bought my 45-70 I probably would have got one instead, because the 45 while great is too much gun for my needs. There aint no grizzlies around my way! |

| They are not any grizzlys around here either. lol It certainly dont burn as much powder. In my manual almost all loads listed for it at max are compressed loads and generally dont reach that much pressure noways according. Example with a 200gr bullet and 42gr of H-322 is a max compressed load and the CUP is 46,900 the load list 2,419 fps. Im no speed freak myself by any means but with this cardridge i wouldnt be afraid to load it hot. Im actually wanting and waiting to get me some of the 255gr barnes bullets made for this gun, cause i more less want it to be a close range ham slammer. The only factory load is with a 200gr bullet and rather hard to find so reloading is a big plus for such a gun. I would like to take it black bear hunting very much though and plain to someday. |

Hahah, "ham slammer"! I like it.
What about pork stalker? Hog flogger? Swine grinder?
A 200g bullet at 2500 fps with that kind of frontal area will indeed slam some ham. A 250g plus bullet may well be enough for a grizz in a pinch too, not that I want to have a confrontation with one of those chaps. |
