I hear you. I'm good to go for elk as I'm doing a guided landowner hunt but I won't know if I drew for deer until August 10. I didn't draw for elk or antelope again in my home state so the elk hunt will be in New Mexico. One can only hope. Paul B. |

| since your posting in the big game section I guess you're talking of antelope, deer and elk. after finding out from your profile you live in Casper I'm sure you know better than us when those seasons are. can you keep busy and get some practice with yotes and P-dogs year round? |

| They've posioned out most of the p-dogs anywhere close enough not to make a over nighter. Hoping to draw a handgun/muzzleloader tag for goats and open the 20th of aug. Cow/calf elk if I draw tag opens 16th of aug. The elk never came down to the hay fields last year, but with the lack of moisture the feed will be scarseup high and not as much waterholes to drink from. |

| Well I'm going hunting starting the 16th of aug. for cow/calf elk; 20 aug. for handgun/muzzleloader antelope, any; 15 sept. doe/fawn goat; 15 oct. for doe/fawn deer; and pick a buck only over the counter for general areas. Will be hitting the range hard and heavy now! |

I was down in Roswell, NM a few yeas ago and got to talk to an outfitter about an elk hunt (which I never did make). He told me the NM has the highest tag fill of any state, around 90%. Is that still true? |

Darned if I know. All I know is the ranch I hunt cow elk on has a 99 percent success rate. At least that's what the outfitter claims. For me it's been 100 percent on that ranch. For the record, th wife and I drew coveted Kaibab National Forest deer tags for this year. Best area in Arizona to try and find a B&C animal, if that's what you're looking for. Took me 7 years to get that tag. The nice thing is I know the area and this year will be the first time my wife has actually hunted. I'm gonna try and get her a big one with me acting as guide and back up. Once she has hers down, then I'll look for mine. She's usually tagged along on my hunts but never has shot anything the times she had tags. I'd take a meat animal the do the serious hunting but this year is hers. October can't get here fast enough. Hi Paul B.
I certainly am envious! It looks like I will be deer hunting in Kentucky this fall and hoping for something bigger next year. Good luck on the hunt! |

My hunt this January was successful and I've booked to go again next January. Didn't draw again for antelope and elk in my home state We don't put in for deer until IIRC, June and find out if we draw in August. I'll probably take part in the Texas hog hunt as well unless something unforseen pops up. Now if I can only find the powder I want. Paul B. |
