I am new here--and want to share a result of, mine and
couple others over on AR, mad wildcatting.

It is called the 12GA From Hell--A long brass 12ga case
we made by putting a 12ga size rim on BMG brass and
straightening case out. Rob and John on AR put theirs
in big Borchardt falling block actions and I put mine in
a Savage 210 bolt action shotgun with heavy barrel and stock.
I got a 730 gr Dixie terminator lead slugout at 2700 fps,
and 3/4 oz Barnes saboted slug out at 3900 fps. Here is
picture of the case next to regular plastic shell, which can
be fired in the chambers of our guns.Ed

Really 3900 FPS!!!!!!!!!!!! with 329 grains. 3/4 oz = 329 grains.

http://www.1728.com/convmass.htm

I was doing some quick math and your exceeding the foot pound of energy of guns like the 460 weatherby and 458 Lott.

The fastest large projectile ever to leave the 26 barrel of my .458 win mag was custom 275 grain hollow points. We chronoed them right at 3000 fps.

That is really quite the weapon

.270 Ackley improved 29 inch 1.250 dia. target barrel 7mm STW 28 inch 1.250 target barrel.

budlight-- The gun has a 31 inch barrel,
and we are using up to 320 grains of powder,
4 times the powder a 458 holds,
so that is why it easily beats the 460, etc.
In the case of the sabot, we are taking a
bullet that is half the weight of regular
50BMG bullets and putting more powder behind it
than what the 50BMG uses.I use the BMG comparison,
as that case is what we made brass from.
And I'm holding peak pressures to 35,000 psi.
In the Borchardt, which can hold full pressures,
Rob got 3000 fps with a 750 gr banded solid,
for 15,000 ft lbs.Ed.

http://www.gunweek.com/2001/feature0201.html

I saw a cape buffalo hunting trip show on OLN The guy was using an 8 bore to take them out. I'd never herd of the gun before. It was about the biggest double rifle I had ever seen other than some of the English 600's and 700's for sale at Safari shows.

I think you just made record books for the big wildcat. The closest thing I have ever seen to that is the BMG trimmed to smaller rim with the sides straightened. It's called a 505 gibbs. A gunsmith friend of mine was making them a few years ago on the P-14 Enfield action. He showed me one he had test fired in his backyard one day. So I told him David, you better be careful with those big bullets, they're hard to stop. He looked at me funny and said come here and let me show you something. We went to where he had dug a hole for test firing and this bullet went a good foot under ground and turned up and traveled three feet, exited the ground and went right in front of the house next door. He looked at me and said I need a better bullet trap. You have to understand he's 78 and burned more powder at praire dogs than the rest of us will in a lifetime.

Looks like it would be good for hunting tanks. Do tanks taste like chicken?

Tried grizzly steak a few times....didn't much care for it. I prefer a nice grain fed black bear in early September myself.

So much for humor, sorry Ed. Yes I have had griz and I agree with Skyline. Keep the trophy and give away the meat. If you are going to hunt with a 25lb gun you are in a lot better shape than me.
