Bought my first 100 the other day. Recommended twist is 1:8" and I have a 1:10", which by the Berger twist chart is marginal for stabilization. Anyway, did the dummy round and found that the ogive contacted at 2.790". Also according to Berger and their tests with "jump", one of the sweet spots will be either .010", .040", .090", or .130" off the lands for the hunting bullets. I've decided to try an OAL of 2.750" and will see what happens. Won't be able to test until, hopefully, next Saturday. Thoughts or opinions from anyone using VLDs.

I'll watch for your results. I have some and have never had a chance to try them.

I love them. Been shooting them for deer and antelope in the kids rifles. Accurate and deadly. mtmuley

I am at an OAL of 2.755". Honestly, I just set to a length that fit my magazine and basically just got lucky with an accurate load right out of the gate. Once established, I measured it with my Stoney Point and seat to the comparator measurement to be more consistent. Kinda backwards, I know, but like I said, sometimes you get lucky. mtmuley

Can't say for the Berger 95 VLD (OD 1.130" & 1 in 8", G1:.467) but the Berger 95 Classic hunter (1.069" & 1 in 9", G1:.434) shoots very well in my savage 1 in 10"
good luck

I shoot and have shot several of the Berger VLD's in a handful of different rifles and cartridges and I have not found them to be very picky to seating depth. They were no different than other non-vld bullets.

My experience is with 105 vld & hybrid in 243win, 140 vld-h in 7mm08, 190 vld-h in 300winmag and 185 vld & hybrid in 308win and 300winmag.

I did the Berger seating depth test with 190vld-h in a 300winmag and no particular depth stood out on the target.

I couldn't get the 105 Hybrids to shoot as well as the 105 vld with H-4831 (my go to always accurate 243w powder) until I tried a different powder. RL-25 got the job done.

Your 10" twist will stabilize the 95 vld as I've seen 2 other 10" twist 243win's shoot them nicely.

Treat that trigger like it’s your first date, not like you’ve been married to it for 20 years.

Well........... The best group I could get with these and VV N550 was about 1 1/2" @ 100 yds. Time to move to VV N560 and go from there. For whatever reason, this Tikka in .243 Win. does NOT like VV N550!!!!
