My buddy just bought a .270 Weatherby Mag and is having a hard time finding brass for it. So, I got to thinking , could you neck up or down other calibers of Weatherby brass or is it caliber specific?

Midway usa has it but, I know that .300 weatherby Mag is made by fire forming .300 H&H and .378 weatherby Mag is made by fire forming .375 H&H, ant the .300 H&H is the parent case for most weatherby cartharges what it takes to get 7mm weatherby Mag from it I do not know. |

There was a guy selling a bunch of 270 Weatherby Mag 1x brass on Gunbroker a while back, no reserve with a low starting bid (like $5). The auction relisted several times due to no sale. I thought about buying it myself and I don't even have a 270...
I don't see that ad now but this one comes up. Starting bid is considerably higher though but $0.65/ea is a bit better than the $1.95/ea Midway wants.

| I bought a bunch of "once-fired" 257 Wby brass a couple of years ago. Had to scrap it all. I just bit the bullet and bought new after that. The guy said once fired. Didn't lie. Didn't say it might have been once-fired several times..... |

I know that 257 wby brass can quickly and easily and cheaply made outta 7mm rem mag. The neck ends up being slightly short, but it hasn't caused me any issues. I'm certain that the 257, 270, and 7mm wby are all the same length. I'm not checking a book at the moment though.
Try lubing and full length sizing a few 7mm rem mag brass in your 270 wby die. It'll form the shoulders and everything.
Let us know how it works for ya. |

| I use 264 Win mag brass for my 257 WBY. I works great. The 7mm Rem mag brass resized for the 270 WBY might chamber tight before the first fire forming shot because the die only puts in the shoulder radius, and not the neck radius. Just something to keep in mind. |

Let's do a mid-course correction, please: The .378 & .340 Weatherby cases are part of a unique case series, it was the old .375 Weatherby that was made by blowing out a .375 H&H case. |

The 300 wby, 340 wby, and 375 wby are all based off the original H&H brass blown out. The 257,270, and 7mm wby are a variant of the shortened H&H case.
The 30-378, 338-378, 378, 416, and 460 wby are based on a case of thier own which is unique to the huge wby cartridges.
The 240 wby is basically a belted 30-06 case. |

Can't remember where I got it, possible Weatherby, but I purchased once fire Weatherby 30-378 a couple of years ago and it was only $1.50 per case. I say only because at that time the stuff new was just under $4.00 per case. I was very satisfied. The stuff was from the Weatherby factory per the return address on the packaging. I found the brass by doing a search for Weatherby used brass.
