I wanted to get one. I was in the gun buying mood and I had the cash. But, I couldn't find one. So I bought a Sako 85 in 300 Win mag instead. shortly after that, I traded my 270 win for a 257 Wby.
I do like the 6.5 caliber. I still would like to get a 264 Win mag. But, I don't have any experience with it. I would think it would be alot like loading for the 7mm Rem mag. It seems easy to load for. |

| They do their best with a 26" barrel. And I believe Win. only makes them in a 24" barrel. If you make it your project gun you could make it any length you want. lost. |

If you dont mind the weight, Remington is chambering it in the Sendero
Im not sure but they might make it in the CDL also, will have to check
have had a couple of different 264's and wish I had not sold either of them |

JJgomez, could you tell us why you could not get a 257 STW. I would be intrested in the "why" part as I am also looking at getting one . I have a rifle manufature who I am going to ask the question, but I was waiting to see what my fund's were going to be. Please let me know. Thanks Stan |

| I've owned both, and UNFORTUNATELY, I no longer own either one! I had so-so luck with reloading for the .264. I couldn't get my groups down to a decent size and just didn't want to spend a lot more time loading for it. On the other hand, I owned a WBY MKV in .257 and to this day I regret selling it... but back in the bad old days, I had to eat! If I could buy back either rifle, it would be the Weatherby. I still have some targets I shot with it, with some very nice tight groups. As I recall, I had very good luck with 117 grain bullets. I'd have to look back in my records to see. |

| I just bought a 264 in a CDL stainless. Beautiful gun. I've been messing around with 140gr Bergers and about 65 to 66gr of Retumbo. I topped it with a Leupold 3x9 VX-1 I wasn't using, I'm saving up to put something with some ballistic drop turrets on it. I don't know how well it groups but seems to be very accurate as I was getting around 8" groups at 500yrds using the top of the post on the bottom of the reticle. Great caliber. |

I have shot and loaded for both, but owned neither. Here is my 2 cents on the guns.
I loaded for a friend of mine last week, he has a custom 257 with a 26" barrel and I got 1/2" groups with RL 22 and the 110 Accubond (BC .410 I think) at almost 3400fps. This kind of performance is impressive (no he wouldn't sell the gun) and I was thinking of building a 6.5-06 so I ran his ballistics against the 6.5-06 with a 130gr Accubond (BC of .488} at 3000fps on Hornady's ballistic calculator sighted in 2.8" high at 100yds. I found that at 400yds the 6.5 had dropped 2 inches more, and the 257 had drifted 2" more with a 10mph wind. The 257 is fast out of the gate, but I would go with the 6.5 because the higher BC bullets are more efficient. An accurate 264 win mag with high BC bullets at 3200fps+ is very hard to beat at long range. Both are good rifles, if you don't hunt where it is windy or shoot past 400yds you wouldn't know the difference, they are both light recoiling, hard hitting calibers. |
