My friend is having good result with the commercial Barnes VOR-TX in his 338 lapua Magnum.
Anyone here knowing what powder Barnes is using for this ammo?
looks like ball powder, but what kind?
(for the record the pill is the 280 grain LRX BT, (one choice only))

If I had to guess knowing it's a ball type powder... Ramshot Magnum
Many cartridge manufacturers use canister grade powders no different that what we buy. When some of those manufacturers claim they have some magic special "blend" of powder I can't help but think they probably took a couple different lots of the same powder and "Blended" them together !
Why would they have a powder manufacturer make them a "Special" powder when there are dozens of powders already in existence that will work perfectly for their application.
Ohh yea... forgot to mention I used Quickload to verify Ramshot Magnum the ideal ball powder In the 338LM shooting 285gr TSX (close enough to 280gr LRX pressure and velocity wise)

The VOR-TX load is based on projections of efficiency by software. You can do that with Quickload, and probably better along with a higher accuracy potential. Or at least pick a powder by Quickload efficiency projection and then do an actual Long Range Ladder Test with your individual rifle. It ain't rocket science, it is ballistic science.
